Warriors have booked a berth in the Grand Final of the South Burnett’s B Grade cricket competition after knocking over Wondai at the Kingaroy State School Oval on Saturday.

Warriors were 8/190 after 40 overs.

Top scorers were Steve Price (64), Paul Clegg (36) and Hayden Wieck (34).

Best of the Wondai bowlers were Chris Bodey, 3/8 off eight overs; and Kiall Rowberry, 2/38 off seven overs.

In reply, Wondai were all out for 134 in the 37th over, 57 short of victory.

Kiall Rowberry top scored with 28, followed by Cameron Donahue (24) and Geoff Wallis (16).

Dane Bloomfield was best with the ball for Warriors taking four wickets for just 24 runs off seven overs.  Ian Haak took 3/27, and Matt Nesbitt 2/21, off eight overs.

Warriors are now through to the Grand Final in a fortnight. They’ll face the winner of next week’s knockout semi-final between Wondai and Murgon Diggers.

Kumbia Rattlers bowed out of the 2013 B Grade competition after they lost a hard fought battle against Murgon Diggers by just nine runs at Kumbia on Saturday.

Diggers won the toss and batted first. After 40 overs, they were 7/181.

In reply, Kumbia made it to 173, needing nine runs to win off 10 balls, when they were bowled out in the 39th over.

Top scorers for Murgon were Rodney Anderson (74), Nathan Nixon (26), Tavis Hartwig (17) and Ryan Stower (16).

Best of the Kumbia bowlers were Roger Hoare,  2/22 off eight overs; Brian Walters,  2/38 off eight overs; Brendan Davis,  1/23 off five overs and Clayton Crawford, 1/30 off seven.

Top scorers for Kumbia were Russell Holland (57), Clayton Crawford (32), Roger Hoare (31) and Ryan Kelly(16).

Best of the Murgon bowlers were Rodney Anderson, 3/29 off 7.2 overs; Tavis Hartwig, 3/32 off eight overs; Nathan Nixon, 3/45 off eight overs; and Clinton Suchoronczak, 1/34 off seven overs.

The last round of regular fixtures in the A Grade competition was also played on Saturday:

Kingaroy RSL secured a five-wicket victory over Scorpions at Nanango.

Nanango opened the batting and were all out for 141.  Top scorer was Steven Kirkland  (44 n/o).

Best of the Kingaroy bowlers were David Hosking (3/33) and Darren Geiger (2/14).

Kingaroy reached their target in the 30th over with the loss of five wickets.

Top scorers were Brady Roberts (55) and Simon Fairbairn (40 n/o)

Kallan Cross top scored with 16 for the Wildcats in their U14s match against Pumas in Kingaroy on Saturday; top scorer for the Pumas was Chris Medcalf 41 n/o

The Wide Bay Cricket zone junior finals which were to be played at Urangan on Sunday were washed out before lunch.

This means the teams that finished at the top of their respective age groups after the preliminary rounds were declared the winners:

  • U12s – Fraser Coast
  • U13s – Fraser Coast
  • U14s – Bundaberg
  • U16s – Bundaberg

Hervey Bay’s Matthew Cornelius was named Wide Bay Junior Cricketer of the Year 2012-13.

This is the first season that Fraser Coast has been represented in all finals.

A South Burnett side had been scheduled to play Fraser Coast in the U13 final.
