Parts of Gympie Regional Council area have been earmarked to receive high-speed fixed wireless broadband in the near future.
NBN Co and its design and construction partners announced today it was working with the local council to identify appropriate locations for fixed wireless network infrastructure.
“Subject to final planning and other approvals, the fixed wireless network plans to cover parts of the Gympie Regional Council area and it is expected facilities will start to be switched on in stages from late 2014,” NBN Co’s Community Account Manager Ryan Williams said.
Earlier this month, NBN Co announced it had lodged development applications with the South Burnett Regional Council for fixed wireless facilities in the South Burnett area.
Fixed wireless broadband is designed to provide smaller townships and rural residential areas with high-speed internet access.
NBN Co will be holding a Community Information Session in Blackbutt on Monday, March 11 to explain the fixed wireless service it will be introducing to the Blackbutt-Benarkin area in the near future.
Blackbutt has been selected as one of the first areas to receive fixed wireless as part of the national NBN roll-out.
The information session will be held at the Blackbutt Community Hall at 50 Coulson Street from 3:00pm to 6:00pm and admission is free.
