Forty-five teams will be taking part in the upcoming Evolution Solar South Burnett Football Sevens Carnival … which will mean an influx of hundreds of players, managers, referees and fans coming to Kingaroy.

The carnival will be held at Tom Alford Oval on February 23-24.

The draw for this year’s competition was announced today.

Clubs from all over southern Queensland have registered, including Bundaberg, the Fraser Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Chinchilla and Roma.

There are 23 men’s teams, 12 women’s teams and 10 Over 35s men’s teams.

Matches will kick off at 9:40am on the Saturday with the final games of the day being played at 6:20pm.

The carnival will recommence at 8:00am the following day and culminate with the women’s and Over 35s final at 2:30pm, the men’s final at 3:00pm and presentations at 3:30pm.

The Football Sevens Carnival has been running for more than 30 years and has become a permanent fixture on the footballing calendar.

Some teams have been involved with the event for decades, including Kawana who have been coming for 25 years.

In 2013, a team will be coming from Roma for the very first time.

“Despite fierce competition, the carnival has been played in the ‘spirit of the game’ and many friendships have been forged over the years,” Football South Burnett publicity officer Martin Stern said.

“The Evolution Football Sevens Carnival gives the local economy a huge boost, especially motels, caravan parks, restaurants and pubs.

A canteen, barbecue and bar will be running on both days.
