Kingaroy State High School P&C is looking for donations of cleaning products and clean linen to help the massive post-flood recovery in the North Burnett.

Donations can be left at the high school office before 3:30pm on Friday.

KSHS P&C President Debbie Jackson said the floods have had a heartbreaking impact on many families.

“Whilst Kingaroy SHS P&C can’t help everywhere as much as we would love to, we have the opportunity to help the community of Mundubbera who have been so badly affected,” she said.

“We have contacted the Mundubbera councillor from the North Burnett Regional Council who has indicated that donations of furniture and large items have arrived and are being stored in town whilst damaged areas are being repaired, cleaned, rebuilt, etc.

“However, their immediate need is for cleaning products eg disinfectant, bleach, multi-purpose cleaner, sponges, scourers, window cleaner, sugar soap, mould and mildew spray, vinegar, bicarb soda, gloves, mops, brooms, scrubbing brushes, etc and clean linen in good condition eg towels, tea towels, sheets, blankets, pillow cases, washers, bath mats etc.

“The South Burnett Mart Auction gets their supplies of cattle panels from a manufacturer in Mundubbera. This company is making a delivery – that was planned to be delivered prior to the flooding – to the Mart Auction on Saturday morning. They are willing to take back our donations to Mundubbera which will be distributed via the North Burnett Regional Council and designated community organisations to those families most in need.

“Imagine how much we could help that one community if each of our school families donated the equivalent of $5 per student in cleaning products!

“This would be over $5000 worth of cleaning products to be spread through the affected Mundubbera families.

“$10 per student exceeds $10,000 … pretty amazing how all those little donations will add up to one substantial donation to a community in need.

“Going through the cupboards to find excess linen will also helps that linen cupboard door which is busting open all the time and having all the towels tumbling out on the floor!”

“All donations need to be delivered to the Kingaroy State High School Office by 3.30pm on Friday so that we can organise some volunteers and box up the donations ready for transport early on Saturday morning.

“Let us show them how much we in the South Burnett care about our neighbours in the Central Burnett. Please assist us by sending in donations to the High School Office between now and Friday.”
