South Burnett craftspeople have been invited to showcase their wares on the new Hand Made In Country website.

Regional Tourism Development Officer for Southern Queensland Country Tourism, Jules McMurtrie, said eligible artisans will be able to display their items online until June 2014 for free.

However, artisans have to take advantage of the offer before March 31.

“Promoting local artisans and the workshops they offer is a great way to attract visitors to the region and encourages them to stay longer,” Mary Clare Power, CEO of Southern Queensland Country Tourism, said.

“It also offers a fantastic experience for our visitors to get in touch with their creative side whilst exploring our great region, and take a hand-made memento home.

“We’re very fortunate to have a lot of very clever people reside in this region, allowing Hand Made in Country to be one of our unique selling points.

“We also encourage our tourism operators to visit this new website to access local-hand made gifts to sell in your establishments, or consider engaging a local artisan to demonstrate their trade to your guests as a value add attraction.”
