Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek has confirmed the majority of Queensland State Schools will re-open tomorrow … but there’s nine schools in the South Burnett that will stay closed.
“The safety of students, staff and the wider community is the first consideration when making the decision to close a school,” Mr Langbroek said.
“Students are expected to return to school as normal tomorrow (January 29) unless it’s been used as an evacuation centre or has been closed because of access or safety issues.
“But I urge parents, even if their school is open, to use their discretion and consider access issues, road closures and transport in their community before sending their child to school.”
A full update of school closures can be found online at http://dete.qld.gov.au/natural-disasters.html
“Closures of early childhood centres, TAFEs and Independent and Catholic schools will also be on the website,” Mr Langbroek said.
“The decision to close schools was made on the basis of whether parents can access a school, whether the school has power and sewerage and whether the school is being used as an evacuation centre.”
The following State Schools facilities will be closed tomorrow:
- Cherbourg
- Durong South
- Goomeri
- Kilkivan
- Moffatdale
- Wheatlands
- Widgee
- Windera
- Woolooga
Parents with children at Catholic or independent schools should check with the school as to any particular local arrangements.
