They’re a hardy bunch at Wondai … the rain may have been pelting down outside, but the Wondai Town Hall was still full on Saturday for the town’s annual Australia Day celebration.
The community breakfast and entertainment was shifted into the hall because of the weather but the Wondai markets went ahead out in the open.
South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann congratulated the crowd, saying it proved that Wondai people would always come out to support local events.
Division 6 councillor Cheryl Dalton congratulated local winners of Australia Day awards, which had been announced the evening before at Blackbutt.
They included Wondai / Tingoora Local Achiever Award winner Corrial Hodge and Hivesville / Proston Local Achiever Award winner Irene MacDonald.
Mayor Kratzmann then led the audience in reciting the Australian Citizen Affirmation.
Over at the Wondai Art Gallery, curator Elaine Madill was offering billycan painting to some of the town’s younger residents.
