General Safety Advice
- Be vigilant and monitor water levels in your local area
- Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters
- Obey road closed signs
- Ensure children don’t play in or near flowing water, culverts, dams or open stormwater drains
- Drive carefully, assuming that flooding (either local or river) may be across the road you are driving on
- Remember that even if roads are free of floodwaters they may have suffered structural damage – so follow police and traffic instructions and be patient while repairs are underway
- Remember that flood waters are often contaminated – so avoid contact if possible, and wash your hands and feet and clean and disinfect any household items that come in contact with flood waters
