The D’Aguilar Highway has re-opened after a head-on crash involving four vehicles this morning at Coolabunia.

An Emergency Services spokesman said the incident occurred near the Bellbird Road intersection.

Two vehicles apparently collided head-on about 9:10am in a major incident, and two other vehicles were then involved in a minor incident.

Five people were injured.

The two drivers of the vehicles in the head-on crash were both trapped in their vehicles.

Two emergency helicopters were called to the scene and the highway was blocked for more than four hours.

The 34-year-old female driver of one vehicle was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital by the Emergency Management Queensland chopper suffering compound fractures.

The 27-year-old male driver of another vehicle was airlifted by the AGL Action Helicopter Service to the Royal Brisbane Hospital suffering severe, multi-trauma leg injuries. He was in a serious but stable condition.

A 20-year-old male was taken by ambulance to Kingaroy Hospital with chest injuries.

Two other people suffered minor injuries but did not require transportation to hospital.

Police investigations are continuing.
