A severe thunderstorm warning was issued this evening for damaging wind, heavy rainfall and large hailstones for people in the Cherbourg Shire and parts of the Gympie, Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast, Somerset and South Burnett council areas.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 11:20 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Kilcoy and the area north of Nanango.
These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast. They are forecast to affect Elgin Vale by 11:50 pm and the area east of Nanango by 12:20 am.
Damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones are likely.
Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should:
- Move your car under cover or away from trees.
- Secure loose outdoor items.
- Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.
- Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
- Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
- Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.

The next warning is due to be issued by 12:25am Tuesday.
