December 12, 2012

Members of the Gympie & South Burnett Division of QCWA met at the Kilkivan QCWA Rooms on Friday,  December 7, for their final meeting of 2012.

There was a very good attendance which may have been in anticipation of the excellent lunch prepared by the Imbil ladies.

The Maidenwell and Kumbia branches both held end-of-year meetings on December 4. Both also ran a Secret Santa for members and guests and lunched at their local hotel.

Maidenwell also held their Christmas Tree for local children on December 1 and distributed gifts to approximately 80 young people.

The Kumbia branch took part in the Kumbia Christmas Carnival on December 9 by decorating a tree in the fashion of yesteryear and holding a market stall with ideas for Christmas gift-giving.

The fact that QCWA is officially in recess until February does not mean all activity stops.

The Handcraft Committee held its inaugural meeting of an embroidery group at the 1913 Council Chambers room in central Kingaroy on December 12.

Anyone who missed this and is interested in getting together with a friendly, informal group to do beautiful needlework should contact Lois Thurecht on (07) 4162-3824 for more details.

Kumbia’s Associate members Charlene and Brooke Lavaring are keen to have some local girls join with them so they can either reform the Kumbia Younger Set or form a new Younger Set of girls from around the region to meet in Kingaroy.

They’ll be holding a cardmaking workshop on Thursday, January 24 from 9:00am-12.30pm and 1:30pm-4:00pm in the Kingaroy Shopping Mall to meet young people and encourage interest in Younger Sets.

Another event – a Come ‘N’ Try afternoon – will be held at the 1913 Chambers behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre from 1:00pm-4:00pm on Saturday, February 9 with the aim of forming this new Set.

There is also hope we can form a Twilight Branch of QCWA in Kingaroy to cater for working ladies and others who find it impossible to attend a meeting during the day.

A meeting has been called for 5:00pm on Wednesday, February 13. Those present will decide if they’ll go to dinner together afterwards or have something brought in.

The Imbil branch ladies are working on a similar plan, but their catering is so organized that they’ve held a dinner meeting and plans are underway for a second one.

Plans are also underway for hosting the Central Region Meeting to be held in Kingaroy 4, 5 and 6 June 2013, when approximately 100 delegates will arrive from across Queensland.

So you see the idea of QCWA being in recess is a myth!
