Wind and low humidity are a perfect recipe for bushfires so it was no surprise that firefighters were kept busy throughout the region today.

Rural and town brigades were called to a bushfire which took off at Ballogie.

An Emergency Services spokesman said the fire was first reported at 10:00am and by the early afternoon about 50 acres of bushland had been burned out.

Multiple crews were on the scene to control spot fires which were breaking out away from the main body of the fire and to do back burning.

Billowing clouds of smoke could be seen along the Chinchilla-Wondai Road and as far west as Wondai.

Fire crews are expected to monitor the site overnight.

Meanwhile, fires on the D’Aguilar Highway at South Nanango and on Palms Road at Cooyar were quickly extinguished today.

A fire on Pimpimbudgee Road at Maidenwell, which began last night, has been contained on three sides with firefighters now concentrating their efforts on the fourth side. No property is currently under threat.
