A young couple in Nanango has taken over one of the town’s best-known businesses, but they’re no newcomers to the shop.
Michelle and Jamie Smith, who are both n their early 20s, took over Cooks Bakery in Drayton Street on December 1.
The business has been run for the past nine and a half years by Barry and Jan Leask.
In 2006, the Leasks hired a young Nanango apprentice baker … Jamie.
Jamie did his apprenticeship at the store and qualified as a baker in 2010.
Along the way he also met Kingaroy girl Michelle … and the rest, as they say, is history.
The couple now has a three-month-old daughter, Codee, and their very own business.
Earlier this year, while the Leasks were still in charge, Cooks Bakery took out a Bronze Award in the Great Aussie Pie Competition in the Plain (mince) category.
But as Jamie was the baker, the couple have kept the certificate in pride of place in their new store.
