The State Emergency Services training area in Kingaroy will soon be boasting a new concrete slab thanks to work being completed by a team of local jobseekers.

The group is completing a Certificate II in Civil Construction organised by Employment Services Queensland.

Trainer Warren Smith said the 11 trainees were being trained in 16 competencies.

The course included 14 core skills plus two electives, including concreting.

Mr Smith said the trainees were learning on-the-job at the SES project about site preparation, forming up and steelfixing.

It is expected the concrete slab will be poured on Tuesday.
