Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek is encouraging State School students to nominate to take part in next year’s Creative Generation (CGEN) program and the MOST instrumental music program.
Mr Langbroek said community support and a new public-private partnership arrangement for MOST had enabled both school music programs to continue in 2013.
“Creative Generation and MOST encourage students to develop their skills in the performing arts and showcase their outstanding abilities to wide audiences,” Mr Langbroek said.
“It is important to nurture creativity and confidence in young people, and I am pleased to announce students will have the chance to nominate and shine again on stage in 2013.
“I thank international venue management organisation AEG Ogden for joining with the Newman Government in a public-private partnership to provide the funding to enable Fanfare and MOST to go ahead next year.”
MOST is a biennial 10-day instrumental music camp for high school students.
“Up to 77 high school students will have the opportunity to attend next year’s MOST residential camp where they will work with professional conductors and tutors in a series of intensive rehearsals, workshops, tutorials and performances,” Mr Langbroek said.
“This learning experience brings gifted and talented instrumental students together and culminates in a gala concert at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre in June.”
Mr Langbroek said nominations were also open for the annual Creative Generation – State Schools Onstage program which will consist of workshops and a performance in July.
“Queensland’s largest youth performance involves more than 1500 state school students who have a special talent and passion for singing, dancing, acting and music,” he said.
“In its eight-year history, Creative Generation has successfully launched the professional careers of many young Queenslanders who have gone on to star in theatre, television and musical productions.”
