Six different artists mounting a joint exhibition isn’t common in the South Burnett – most exhibitions usually feature the works of one to three artists, unless they’re a competition or an acquisitive…
But Kingaroy’s Nimué Art Gallery proved that six really can be a magic number when they unveiled their latest exhibition “Six Is A Magic Mix” on Saturday.
The exhibition was put together by Jumping Ant Arts members Diana Bolton, Carmel Nott, Dianne Woodall, Karol Oakley, Margariet Laughton and Fay Stumm.
Bolton, Woodall and Oakley are best known for their landscapes; Nott for print-making; and Laughton and Stumm for pottery.
But as the exhibition showed, when all six exhibit their works together they seem able to produce a special magic all their own.
A small but enthusiastic crowd turned up to the 2:00pm opening and the generous afternoon tea that accompanied it.
Several works gained red dots immediately, and some patrons took the opportunity to talk with the artists about their work or – if they were artists themselves – to discuss technique or the ups and downs of the creative process.
Nimué curator Cherry Carroll, opening the exhibition, said that she was “overwhelmed” with the volume of artworks the group produced for the new show.
“I found it difficult to find sufficient space to do all the works justice,” she said, “but eventually we somehow managed to fit everything in.”
She added the diversity of artworks in the show was a tribute to the creativity of the artists involved, and said she was very pleased to be able to bring it to the public.
Exhibition: “Six Is A Magic Mix” will remain on show at the Nimué Art Gallery Tuesdays to Fridays from 10:00am to 3:30pm, and Saturdays from 10:00am to 1:30pm, until the end of the month.
