A big crowd of students, proud parents and teachers packed into the Kingaroy Art Gallery this evening for the opening night of the 2012 Kingaroy State High School Student Art Exhibition.
The exhibition, which was officially opened by Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington, features works by 140 students in a wide range of media including etchings, paintings, ceramics, drawings and prints.
The artwork will be on display until the end of the month, and all gallery visitors will be invited to vote for the “People’s Choice”, which will be announced on October 31st.
Ms Frecklington said the display was extremely impressive – better than a lot of works by adults – and an “absolute credit” to the students.
KSHS art co-ordinator Wendy Corstiaans then called on nine of the students to each present a short explanation of their works.
Guests also enjoyed nibbles prepared and served by the school’s hospitality students and wine from Captain’s Paddock Vineyard.
UPDATE November 6: People’s Choice award winner with more than 200 votes was Bethany Kelly.
All up, the students made $1600 worth of sales from their exhibition.
