The first Red Ants Reunion to be held for more than 20 years has been declared a huge success by organisers.

Club treasurer Janine Ploetz said between 250 and 270 people – former players, coaches and their families – attended the celebration, which was held under a marquee on Saturday night at T.J. O’Neill Oval in Kingaroy.

She said the night was “fantastic”.

Red Ants media co-ordinator Mick Dugdell said visitors travelled from Victoria, NSW and all over Queensland.

Many life members of the club came along, including John Norris, from Hervey Bay; Alan and Yvonne Irwin, and Bob Jones, who travelled back from North Queensland.

Other well-known club identities included former Australian International and State of Origin forward Dave Brown, Brian “Preacher” Smith and Tony Marshall.

The raffles – which included signed jerseys and other memorabilia – also went “really well”.

Profits from the night will be put towards the completion of the club’s new building.
