The crowd at  the Heritage Community Branch Nanango races – held as a prelude to next week’s big Mardi Gras festival – enjoyed some exciting finishes as well as the warmest of Spring weather on Saturday.

The Fashions of the Field theme of  “spots, dots and bowties” was enthusiastically followed with racegoers of all ages donning some eye-catching fashions.

The  Nanango Mardi Gras Ambassador Danielle Turmaine and Mardi Gras Queen Sue Wallis, who were announced at a function at Ringsfield House on Friday night, were also introduced to the crowd with a parade down the home straight.

It was also “women’s day” on the track, with female jockeys – Alanah Badger, Billie-Rose Derbyshire and Melody O’Brien – bringing home an unusual trifecta in Race 2. Badger also rode two other placegetters on the day.
