A permitted burn-off on a property near Alice Creek overnight caused a scare this morning when a smouldering log re-ignited the fire.

Strong winds then whipped the blaze out of the control of the landholder who was monitoring the burn-off.

He called for assistance at 10:30am and three urban and 10 rural fire crews responded.

An Emergency Services spokesman said that by 2.20pm, the fire was back under control, burning within containment lines.

An hour later, all fire crews had left the area and handed control of the burn-off back to the landholder.
