Congratulations to basketballer Orlyn Fisher, from Murgon, who has won a Federal grant to compete in the Wide Bay Basketball Competition.
Orlyn is one of several applicants from the Wide Bay area who were successful under the funding program.
Federal Member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss announced the latest round of successful applicants from the Australian Government’s Local Sporting Champions program today.
“It is pleasing to see so many talented and ambitious young sporting men and women in our region, with a high number of skilled, dedicated and committed people applying for the grants. That also made awarding the grants all the harder, as there are only a few to be allocated in each funding round,” Mr Truss said.
“I congratulate the winners and wish each competitor well in their events.”
Grants of $500 per individual and $3000 per team are available for people aged between 12 and 18 years to help meet the costs of participating in those events, including travel, equipment, uniforms, and accommodation.
In order to be eligible to receive a Local Sporting Champions grant, applicants:
- Must be aged 12 to 18 years (inclusive);
- Must be required to travel a distance of 250km or more, return.
- Be participating in an official national sporting organisation endorsed State or national sporting competition, or national school sport competition.
