South Burnett Regional Council has allocated $141,000 worth of concessions to local community organisations in this year’s Budget.
“The Council was unanimous in its endorsement of the work done by volunteers within our community organisations and as such we will continue to give these groups rebates,” Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.
The Council concessions will assist a variety of groups including $7928 to QCWA branches, $10,092 to Scouts and Guides, $11,264 to showgrounds and race clubs, $10,118 to aged care facilities, $65,488 to sporting clubs and $27,651 to kindergartens, childcare centres, senior citizens and welfare organisations.
“Most community organisations may be unaware of the concessions they are getting as they are passed on with their rates notice,” Finance spokesman Cr Keith Campbell said.
“The Council simply allocates these concessions by reducing rates. It’s our way of showing the Council’s support of these community groups. We appreciate what they do and what they are able to provide to our residents.”
Mayor Kratzmann said Council would also continue to grant eligible pensioners a $100 rebate off their rates, which is in addition to the $200 discount provided by the State Government.
