While pedal power ruled the streets of Maidenwell on Saturday, hot rods and street machines took over the local sportsground.
The annual “Raising Hell in Maidenwell” show’n’shine – the public day of the three-day car rally organised by the South Burnett Gas Guzzlers club – attracted good crowds to inspect the line-up of classic hotrods, street machines and interesting rare models.
One of the latter was Dave Lucas’s 1952 Studebaker Starlight coupe “Anniversary Model”, one of only a handful in Australia. Dave is a member of the Studebaker Car Club of Queensland, which also represented by a number of other vehicles at Maidenwell.
Gas Guzzlers spokesman Trevor Ivins said the day had been a real success with more than 70 vehicles on display and raising funds for the Heart Foundation.
A Mitsubishi Magna, donated to the club, was auctioned and raised $1900.
Parked along the edge of the arena was also a display of 20 vintage vans … “caravans”, that is.
The owners of these fully-restored egg-shaped vans seemed to be having a good time camping out despite the chilly start to the day.
