The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will conduct a planned burn in the Wondai State Forest tomorrow and Thursday (August 1-2), weather permitting, as part of its annual hazard reduction and conservation management program for parks and forests.
As a result, the QPWS says smoke may be seen in the Cherbourg, Wondai and Charlestown areas, particularly near the Old Wondai Road from Wondai to Memerambi-Barker Creek Road.
The aim of the burn-off is to reduce the volume of forest fuels before the summer bushfire season and create a mosaic pattern of burnt and unburnt areas within the State Forest which will help reduce the intensity of any subsequent wildfires and provide favourable conditions for natural forest regeneration.
