Kingaroy Services’ fast bowler Holly Ferling, 16, has been invited to join a training camp in Sri Lanka with Australia’s national women’s cricket team, the Southern Stars.

Holly, who earlier this year was selected to join the Queensland Fire women’s cricket squad for the 2012-13 cricket season, was one of two members of the junior Australian team, the Shooting Stars, who will go to Sri Lanka to take part in the training camp before the ICC World Women’s Twenty20 tournament.

She told southburnett.com.au this evening that she would leave for Sri Lanka in early August and expected to be there for 12 days.

“We will experience what it’s like training for an international competition alongside the national players,” she said.

Holly, who toured New Zealand last year with the Shooting Stars, said there may also be an opportunity to play in some trial matches.

In April, she made history by becoming the first woman to win the Ken Mackay Trophy for Queensland Junior Cricketer of the Year.
