Members of the Blackbutt and Benarkin Aged Care Association met recently with Council representatives to discuss opportunities for the association to take over the management of the “Scott” Haven Units.

The Aged Care Association owns other land in Blackbutt where it ultimately hopes to construct an aged care facility if bed allocations can be obtained from the Federal Government. In the meantime, the association felt it could assist the aged community by taking over the management of the facility.

“Our plan is to brighten up the current units by doing some painting, gardening and replacing some of the old curtains,” Aged Care Association secretary Ross Heaney said.

“We then want to raise funds to be able to build additional units on the allotment behind the existing units which will mean greater access to appropriate accommodation for more people. We already have other groups in Blackbutt that are willing to help us with this project.”

Cr Debra Palmer said she was impressed with the association’s plans and said Council was pleased to be working with such a positive and proactive association.

Following an onsite inspection of the units with Cr Damien Tessmann, all parties agreed to progress towards the association managing the units as soon as possible
