The “Committed To Community” campdraft held at the weekend in Proston was a huge success … with 170 competitors having heaps of fun and about $20,000 raised for Graham House Community Care.

The money will be used to provide operational funding for a new Holden Commodore stationwagon which was donated to Graham House through the Bendigo Bank’s community grants program and officially handed over on Saturday.

“It was a most fantastic weekend, and we have had great feedback,” organiser Lesley Dennien said.

“People loved the atmosphere and I also believe it was good for businesses in Proston.

“The attraction for campdraft competitors was the opportunity to compete for some lucrative prize money and trophies and also the opportunity to draft 600 head of good quality cattle.

“Smithfield Feedlot loaned the bulk of the cattle, approximately 500 head and the draft could not have gone ahead without their support.

“The other attraction for many was the great line-up of night time entertainment. On Friday night the crowd was entertained by the wonderful country rock vocalist Amber Goldsmith and on Saturday the showgrounds really rocked to the Jock Barns Brisbane Band, Golden Child.”

Lesley said the donated Commodore would be driven by Graham House Community Centre volunteers to transport elderly people and people with a disability to medical appointments both inside and outside the South Burnett.

“Not all accounts have been received at this point, but the proposed fundraising target of $20,000 is well on track due mainly to the generous support the event attracted,” she said.

Graham House plans to hold a similar fundraising event every four years, although it may not always be a campdraft.

Lesley said the entire weekend was extremely well supported by local business and individuals.

“The generosity of businesses and individuals speaks volumes about the community in which we live,” she said.
