In an exciting match – and their best performance by far this year – the South Burnett Thrashers were only defeated after the full-time siren in their clash with the Condamine Cods played at the “Fishbowl” in Condamine on Saturday afternoon.

Jamie Shirlaw, Kyron Tunstall and Mitchell Clark all scored tries for the South Burnett, and Kirk Parker kicked two conversions and one penalty goal.

Club president Shane O’Malley told southburnett.com.au the team was full of confidence after their strong performance in last week’s home game.

At half-time, the Thrashers were ahead 15-14.

South Burnett scored next, stretching the lead to 22-14 which is where the scoreboard stayed until three minutes from the end when the Cods crossed the line.

Condamine then put on a quick back-to-back try, touching down after the full-time siren.

The final score was Condamine Cods 24, South Burnett 22.

Shane said the final result was a bit disappointing but the players had put in a tremendous effort and their performance was excellent.

The Thrashers are scheduled to play UQ Highfields next weekend in the next rowund of the 2012 Downs Rugby B Grade competition.
