St Mary’s Catholic College netball team won their netball final at the week-long Queensland Independent Secondary Schools’ Netball (QISSN) Competition at Caloundra.

Despite being the smallest school competing in the competition, the St Mary’s team went on to take out their divisional final against Mercy College, Mackay, which has more than four times the number of secondary students.

St Mary’s defeated Mercy by a convincing 29 points to 12.

Mercy team had clawed back to within a point of St Mary’s before half-time but the determined Kingaroy team fought back strongly in the final two quarters.

St Mary’s College has taken part in the QISSN competition since its inception in 2000 but this is their first final win.

College principal Michael Nayler said he was extremely proud of the team’s achievements and very grateful to their coach Racheal Stenning and the staff, parents and students who supported the team throughout the week-long competition.

The College is already booking in for next year’s competition which will be held in Townsville.
