Tom Quilty Cup

June 29, 2012

Organisers of the Tom Quilty Gold Cup have received $25,000 assistance from Queensland Events to help stage the iconic endurance horse ride in Kilkivan next year.

The South Burnett last hosted “the Quilty” in 2008 in Nanango.

The 160km horse riding challenge, which began in NSW in 1966, will be held from June 5-9 next year.

The annual event was the brainchild of the late RM Williams. It attracts up to 250 champion endurance riders every year from Australia and overseas.

It’s named after Tom Quilty, a cattleman and friend of RM Williams, who donated the perpetual trophy which is now on permanent display in the Stockman’s Hall of Fame in Longreach.
