The Blackbutt and Benarkin Community Council Inc will take over the management of the Blackbutt Memorial Hall – the heart of the Blackbutt community – from July 1.
The official signing of the “Deed of Licence to Occupy” occurred yesterday at a ceremony in the Council Chambers at Blackbutt.
After July 1, all hall bookings will be taken from the Blackbutt Post office.
UPDATE: July 3, 2012
Community Council Inc president Liam Wellstead said he would like to thank all the people who had taken an interest and supported the Community Council during the long process of taking over the hall.
“In particular, we want to thank Deb Frecklington, MP Member for Nanango, Cr Debra Palmer, Cr Keith Campbell and Mayor Wayne Kratzmann who have followed with interest and input the moving of the management of the Memorial Hall into the hands of our community,” he said.
He said the Community Council had also submitted an application to the Community Recovery Flexible Funding Program that, if successful, would allow it to draw up a Business Plan for the management of this community resource.
The aims of the community engagement process in the take over of the management and in the establishment of the Blackbutt Memorial Hall Plan are:
- For community members to provide input to the Blackbutt Memorial Hall Business Plan so that the vision, strategies and actions reflect community members views,
- To develop community ownership and mobilise a range of stakeholders to be involved in the growth and use of the Blackbutt Memorial Hall
- Build the capacity and confidence of community members and community council to utilise the hall as a community hub and asset
- To build and maintain an ongoing relationship with sectors of the community
- Engagement of other stakeholders that would have responsibility for some opportunities identified in the plan, particularly state and federal government agencies and non-profit organisations etc.
“The management of the Blackbutt Memorial Hall has changed but at this stage everything else will run as usual,” Liam said.
“Bookings, fees and keys will be handled by Emeric and Willo at the Blackbutt Post Office. Fees and charges will remain as they were when Council was managing the hall. There will be some teething problems, I expect, but nothing that the team can’t work out to the benefit of the community.”
