A man on remand on rape charges pleaded guilty in Kingaroy Magistrates Court today to breaching his bail conditions after he returned to Cherbourg on two occasions despite being ordered not to enter the town.
Police Prosecutor Sgt Nick Nitschke said police were called to a domestic violence incident on April 22 in Jerome Street. The man was arrested and released on a domestic violence order.
On April 29, police attended another incident where the man had allegedly struck his former partner on the right leg with a fence paling. She was treated at Cherbourg hospital for injuries to her head and leg.
He was then charged with breaching his release conditions.
Police subsequently identified that a Supreme Court bail condition not to enter Cherbourg was still current and the man was arrested on May 15 when he attended his weekly Probation appointment.
Magistrate B.D. Barrett sentenced the man to 31 days’ imprisonment for each offence, to be served concurrently. As he had been in custody since May 15, he was immediately released.
