Two Cherbourg men who were held in custody for seven months have been released after the Crown dropped charges against them.
One of the men celebrated his 18th birthday behind bars after he was refused bail.
The pair had been charged with arson over fires which occurred at Murgon on November 11 last year which damaged vehicles at Clifton Motors and outside the CTC premises.
A jury was empanelled in the District Court in Kingaroy last Tuesday.
After hearing extensive legal argument, Judge Marshall Irwin ruled late on Friday afternoon that some of the evidence the Crown intended to present was inadmissable.
Crown Prosecutor Sarah Dennis then entered a “nolle prosequi” discontinuing the charges.
Judge Irwin formally discharged the jury this morning and informed them the defendants had been released.
