Agnes Dynevor loves mentoring Cherbourg State School’s students.
She began visiting the school at the start of the year when one of her own children was having a bit of difficulty coping.
Her effort paid off and now that child is improving in leaps and bounds.
She now moves among the classrooms to mentor all four of her family: Joseph, 6, Jennifer, 9, Isaiah, 10, and Josephine, 11.
Agnes was presented with the school’s Parent of the Month award on Monday.
She said her children enjoyed school … and they agreed, saying they loved having their mum at school.
“It will help them to lead a happier, healthier life,” she said.
Agnes encouraged all parents to take a strong interest in their children’s education.
“My children appreciate me being here,” she said.
“I do it because I love them.”
Cherbourg State School Principal Peter Sansby said Agnes also helped other children when she was in the classrooms.
He said her presence and that of other parents was proving a boon to the school.
“Our teachers can’t speak highly enough of our parent and community mentors,” he said.
“Their help is allowing us to provide an education of the highest quality that will allow our children to grow up to be happy, healthy, strong, smart and safe.”
