Jenna Smith, 6, from Yarraman, looked pretty in pink in the Midgets

April 14, 2012

The Nanango netball courts were a sea of pink on Saturday as the Nanango and District Netball Association celebrated the Breast Cancer Network’s “Pink Footy & Netball Day”.

Players aged from 5 to 15 donned pink shirts – and in many cases, pink tutus – and the grounds were decorated with pink balloons for the club’s games against Kingaroy.

Even the canteen went pink for the occasion, selling pink buns and pink patty cakes. And players and spectators munched on pink marshmallows …

Donations were collected on the day for the Breast Cancer Network but the club is also hoping its fans will help it reach its fundraising goal of $250 by pledging donations on its online  fundraising page.

Club spokeswoman Lynn Smith said last year the club “went blue” to raise funds for depression awareness charity Beyond Blue … so going pink seemed to be the natural thing to do this year.
