Nell Dennien and Susan Kowald … ready to help at the Wondai Driver Reviver site

May 7, 2012

Every holiday break, local South Burnett residents volunteer their time and energy to help keep our highways safer.

We’re not talking about the police or SES … the volunteers we’re talking about staff the two “Driver Reviver” stations which are set up in the South Burnett.

There are about 220 Driver Reviver sites across Australia. In the South Burnett, sites are located at Yarraman (on the corner of the New England and D’Aguilar highways) and at Wondai’s Dingo Creek park.

Driver Reviver is a community program which encourages drivers to take a break on a long journey.

When southburnett.com.au dropped into the Wondai site on Saturday, two volunteers from the Wondai Order of the Eastern Star lodge were helping customers.

Other groups which assist at the Wondai stall include Wondai Lions, the Proston CWA and the 135 Army Cadet Unit from Wondai.

Travellers who signed the visitors’ book had come from NSW, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Gladstone and Agnes Waters.
