Former South Burnett Mayor David Carter says the formation of a greater regional tourism organisation to market Toowoomba, the Darling Downs, Southern Downs, Granite Belt, Western Downs and South Burnett is a “golden opportunity” for the region.
Mr Carter, who is the chair of the Transition Advisory Board which is guiding the merger of the separate tourism organisations, said there was a real willingness to work together for a positive future “for our towns, cities and region”.
“Based on industry feedback, it’s very clear that new organisation’s focus will lie in marketing and communications,” he said.
The boards of Toowoomba Golden West South Burnett Tourism and Southern Downs Granite Belt Tourism met on April 20 to consider the results of 15 consultation meetings which have been held throughout the regions about the merger.
The Transition Advisory Board is now in the process of seeking legal and financial advice “to ensure the highest standard of governance and the most effective outcomes for the region are achieved”.
The next round of industry consultations will begin on June 5.
