South Burnett Regional Council has felt the need to scotch widespread rumours – or conspiracy theories – that have been floating around for some time that new homes being built at Memerambi are intended to house refugees.

In an official statement today, Council CEO Ken McLoughlin said: “The Memerambi Housing Estate will consist of two and three-bedroom houses constructed on large village lots.

“It is freehold land and the current houses under construction are being built for private owners.

“Recent suggestions that the new housing estate will be utilised for migrant and asylum seeker housing are not correct.”
