The South Burnett Regional Council has advised that Gordonbrook Dam will be temporarily closed from today due to high levels of blue-green algae in the water.

There are many different types of blue-green algae and Gordonbrook Dam sometimes experiences very high levels of the different types.

“These levels vary throughout the year and it is necessary to close the dam (water area) for public access and recreation when testing of algae indicates high levels,” a Council spokesman said.

“Residents should not be concerned about the quality of their drinking water, as Council’s treatment processes completely filters the water before it reaches consumers.”
