The South Burnett Junior Sportsperson Of The Year Australia Day Award recognises a young person from the region who has made an outstanding effort in sport.
In 2014, the Award nominees were:
Renee Irvine
At the age of 12, Renee’s sporting abilities and achievements are many.
Throughout the past year she has captained the Wide Bay 12 yrs girls, basketball team when they competed in Cairns. She is also the aAthletics age champion at St Joseph’s in Murgon, going on to represent the South Burnett in 800m, shotput and discus Renee gained a first in the South Burnett and Wide Bay competitions for discus, and went on to be placed 7th in the State Championships. As a member of Murgon Mustangs Club, Renee also represented the South Burnett and Wide Bay in 12 yrs Rugby league. She was awarded the Best and Fairest player for the season She has represented South Burnett and Wide Bay in 12 yrs Girls Cricket, co-captaining the Wide Bay team where her team were undefeated in the Queensland Trials. And she represented the South Burnett & Wide Bay in 12 yrs Girls Rugby League and 12 yrs Girls Cricket. She co-captained the Cricket team to victory in the Queensland trials and has gained selection to play for Queensland, where she will compete in Bendigo in Jan 2014. Renee displays great leadership skills and is always encouraging her team mates to go that extra yard. |
Jackie Krosch
Jackie is a highly self-motivated sportsperson who sets clear goals and trains hard without the assistance of others.
Her recent achievements include being placed third in the 18 years State Secondary Athletics Championships for Long Jump, Triple Jump and 800m; co-captaining the Wide Bay Open girls team, a member of the Wide Bay Open girls team, South Burnett cross-country age champion and a member of the Wide Bay team, finishing 8th at the State cross country titles. Her dedication resulted in being awarded the 2013 Kingaroy State High School Pierre de Coubertin Award and the 2013 Bass Blue Sportsperson of the Year award. In addition to her sporting ability and achievements, Jackie contributes back to her community through her involvement in music, hospitality and sport, including coaching and refereeing. She gives her time willingly to be involved in community events such as the Kingaroy Carols by Candlelight and the Burrandowan Races. |
Izzy Williams
Izzy is recognised by her teachers and fellow students as a role model at Murgon State High School.
She was awarded the 2013 Sportswoman of the Year for Murgon High School. Her recent achievements include winning the girls 16 yrs Cross Country, Swimming and Athletics. |
