Cooyar Trail Ride
- The first day of the weekend-long annual Cooyar Trail Ride will be held at the Cooyar Showgrounds in Rangemore Road, Cooyar from 10:00am this morning until around 3:00pm this afternoon. The Ride caters for Peewee, Novice, Advanced Novice and Open riders, and fees apply to take part in the races - but spectators are welcome to come along and watch the action for free. There's also free camping in the showgrounds from Monday to Friday and a canteen and bar will be operating, too. However, visitors and participants should bring cash because there's no ATMs or EFTPOS in the grounds. The Trail Ride will conclude tomorrow.
Kingaroy Friendship Markets
- The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are run by the Kingaroy Show Society and feature a range of arts, crafts, food stalls, fruit and garden stalls, plus unusual bric-a-brac. New stallholders are always very welcome.
Mudgarden - Kingaroy
- Mudgarden will be performing at the Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets, Kingaroy from 8:00pm to 11:00pm tonight. Admission is free and the hotel's kitchen will be open for dinner and snacks. More details? Phone (07) 4162-1380
Proston Community Markets
- The monthly Proston Community Markets - organised by the Proston Show Society and held on the 3rd Saturday of each month - will be running outside the QCWA Rooms at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston from 8:00am to around noon this morning. Stalls feature everything from craftwork to baked goods and bric-a-brac are are always fun to browse. There'll also be a great BBQ breakfast and Devonshire morning teas available, as well as a large fruit and veggie tray raffle. Saturday Morning Tennis - Blackbutt
- The Blackbutt Tennis Club in Hart Street, Blackbutt (just up the road from the Radnor Hotel) will be running Saturday morning social tennis games from 7:30am this morning. New players are always welcome. More details? Phone Roy on 0407-378-795
Moore Hall Markets
- The monthly Moore Markets will be held outside the Moore Soldiers Memorial Hall off the D'Aguilar Highway in Moore from 7:00am to around 12:00 noon today. The markets are held on the 3rd Saturday of every month and feature hand painted china; hand made jewellery; hand crafted dolls; quilts; biscuit tin banjos; jade; wooden toys; delightful handmade bags; plants; bric-a-brac; antiques and collectables; tea cosies; baby clothes; tea towels; candles; soaps; cakes; jams and pickles, and more. There's also great brekkies available inside the Hall, and with Christmas drawing ever closer Santa will be paying a visit today as well. Everyone is welcome!
Pig Races - Kilkivan
- Here's something different! The Kilkivan Hotel in Bligh Street, Kilkivan will be running Pig Races in the hotel's beer garden from 1:00pm this afternoon with lots of fun, food and a reverse raffle to help raise funds for the Kilkivan Cattle Team. Murgon Men's Shed Garage Sale
- The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding their annual Garage Sale at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) from 6:30am this morning. The Men's Shed also meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Wondai Autumn Garden Expo
- The first day of the weekend-long 2024 Wondai Autumn Garden Expo will be held at the Wondai Sports Grounds off the Bunya Highway just north of Wondai's CBD from 8:00am this morning through until 4:30pm this afternoon. The Expo has become one of the South Burnett's signature annual events as well as one of the largest gardening shows of its type in south-east Queensland, drawing thousands of keen gardeners to Wondai every April. As well as the usual wide range of plant and garden-related product displays, this year's Autumn Garden Expo will also feature the Wondai District Garden Club's Horticultural Show, along with live music and food and drink stalls. The Expo's official opening will be held at 10:30am with a guest speaker discussing gardening topics from 11:00am. Adult admission to the Expo is just $5 per day or $8 for a two-day pass, and children are under 15 are free.
Witness For The Prosecution - Nanango
- The Nanango Theatre Company will presenting their second and third performances of Agatha Christie's gripping courtroom drama "Witness For The Prosecution" at their playhouse at the corner of Elk and George Streets, Nanango at 2:00pm this afternoon, and again at 7:00pm tonight. Tickets to see this three hour show are $25 for adults (or $20 for concessions and NTC members) and they can be booked online. Note: Three further performances will be held next Friday night and matinee and evening shows next Saturday.
Nanango Men's Shed
- The Nanango Men's Shed at the corner of Mt Stanley Road and Heathermore Lane, Nanango will be open from 8:30am to around 12:30pm today for its regular Saturday get-together. Yarraman Markets
- The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets are held on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Saturday each month and they feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls. Junior & Women's Rugby League - Cherbourg
- The South Burnett's junior rugby league teams will be playing at Jack O'Chin Oval in Broadway Street, Cherbourg today, kicking off with U6s matches at 8:00am on one field, and U10s matches on a second field. These will be followed by U8s matches at 9:20am and U12s matches at 11:20am before an U14s match between Nanango and Chinchilla at 2:00pm, and then an Under 17 girls match between Cherbourg and Bundaberg at 3:00pm before the day wraps up with a Women's match between Cherbourg and Bundaberg at 4:30pm. Spectators and supporters are very welcome.
Vacant Chair Ceremony - Blackbutt
- In honour of Anzac Day on April 25, the Blackbutt Masonic Lodge will be holding a Vacant Chair Ceremony at their lodge at the corner of Sutton and Margaret Streets in Blackbutt from 11:30am to 12:30pm today to remember former masons who went to war from 1914 onwards and never returned. Members of the public are very welcome to come and pay their respects as well.
Yarraman Wild Horse Campdraft
- The second day of the three-day Yarraman Wild Horse Campdraft will be held at the Yarraman Showgrounds on the New England Highway south-west of town from 6:30am this morning through until late this afternoon. Today's events will kick off with a continuation of the first round of the Open Draft (which began yesterday), followed by a Maiden Draft. Tomorrow the action will swap to the finals of the Open Draft and a Junior, a Juvenile and a Novice draft. A bar, canteen and coffee van will be running in the grounds, and unpowered campsites are available onsite if you want to stay over. There'll also be a pig on a spit dinner available tonight, plus music from DJ Jake. Admission is free for spectators.

- The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. - The Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Parkrun - Blackbutt
- The Blackbutt parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail at Blackbutt from 7:00am this morning. The starting line is adjacent to the Roy Emerson Museum, off Bowman Road. Runners follow a course along the former railway line and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online (it's officially called the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail parkrun) and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Bookarama - Kingaroy
- St John's Lutheran School P&C will be holding the first day of their giant two-day Bookarama at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 8:00am to 4:00pm today. Bookarama offers tens of thousands of books on all subjects at genuine bargain prices, along with a "Happy Hour" from 3:00pm to 4:00pm where all books are half price. Proceeds of Bookarama go to help the school and if you love books, it's heaven on a stick. Everyone is welcome and admission is free! Note: Bookarama will also run tomorrow from 8:00am to noon.

Saturday AFL - Kingaroy
- The South Burnett Saints will be kicking off this year's AFL season with three home games at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy today. The action will kick off at 11:00am with a mixed U14s match against the Toowoomba Bombers. This will be followed by a clash between the Saints and Bombers women's teams at 12:45pm, and after that the Saints and Bombers' men's teams will take to the field at 2:30pm. A bar and canteen will be running on site and spectators are very welcome to come along and cheer the home teams to victory.
Saturday Soccer - Kingaroy
- Round 1 of the South Burnett's 2024 soccer season will continue tonight at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street in Kingaroy at 6:00pm when Nanango Men White play Barambah. A canteen will be operating at the grounds and spectators are very welcome.
