Four young South Burnett rugby league players have been successful in the latest round of funding from the Federal Government’s “Local Sporting Champions” program.
Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said the program supported young sportsmen and women between the ages of 12 and 18 by providing grants of $500 to help meet the costs of participating in sporting events, including travel, equipment, uniforms and accommodation.
South Burnett recipients are:
- Barry Tapau-Fewquandie, Cherbourg – Schoolboys State Rugby League Carnival
- Peter Langton, Cherbourg – Schoolboys State Rugby League Carnival
- Errol Simpson, Cherbourg – Schoolboys State Rugby League Carnival
- Elwyn Fewquandie, Tablelands – Schoolboys State Rugby League Carnival
To be eligible to apply for a Local Sporting Champions grant, applicants must be:
- Aged 12 to 18 years (inclusive);
- Required to travel a distance of 250km or more, return; and
- Be participating in an official national sporting organisation-endorsed sporting competition.
