October 3, 2014

Durong grazier Georgie Somerset has been nominated as one of the “100 Women of Influence” for 2014.

One hundred women have been named across 10 categories: Board/Management, Social Enterprise or Not-For-Profit, Public Policy, Diversity, Philanthropy, Business Enterprise, Young Leader, Global, Local / Regional, and Innovation.

Georgie has been nominated in the Local / Regional category for her role as an ambassador for women in Australian agribusiness.

She told southburnett.com.au she was honoured to have been included in the list.

“Working in regional Australia has provided me with many opportunities and challenges and this recognition reflects this,” she said.

“My focus is on continuing to provide effective leadership for rural communities.

“This includes enabling investment in people, industries and regions to ensure their sustainability, as well as supporting other women to develop their leadership capabilities and achieve their goals.”

The winners will be celebrated at an awards night which will be held at Sydney Town Hall on October 22.

This is the third year The Australian Financial Review and Westpac have organised the awards.

Westpac chief executive Gail Kelly said the calibre of the nominations was remarkable.

“It is such a privilege to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions these women are making to Australia,” she said.

“The 2014 winners will join the now 300-strong prestigious alumni of these awards.”
