Well-known local educator Uncle Eric Law, from Murgon, was one of seven Queenslanders who were presented with awards recently as part of Catholic Education Week.

The former director of Nurunderi TAFE received the “Aunty Joan Hendriks Spirit of Catholic Education Award for Reconciliation” for his work at St Joseph’s School at Murgon.

The awards were presented by Queensland Governor Penelope Wensley following the official launch of Catholic Education Week by Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Oudeman at St Mary’s College, Ipswich.

Catholic Education Week provides an opportunity for Catholic schools to share with the wider community what they are doing with their school.

The Spirit of Catholic Education Awards recognise staff members, parents, clergy or volunteers who are making an outstanding contribution to Catholic education.

A Catholic Education spokesman said Eric, along with his wife Shirley and daughter Nikki, had worked tirelessly at St Joseph’s to improve both Indigenous and non-Indigenous educational outcomes.
