A dozen “Bites Of The Burnett” were unveiled at the opening of the Kingaroy Art Gallery’s February exhibition on Friday night.
North Burnett artist Sue Lederhose’s travelling exhibition consists of 12 watercolours featuring local scenes.
Lederhose lives at Mundubbera but she has many family connections to the South Burnett and has built up a loyal following for her artworks here.
She’s also been holding popular watercolour workshops lately at the Wondai Art Gallery.
Also at the Kingaroy Gallery this month is a new exhibition from the Jumping Ant Arts group entitled “Fran and Friends”, featuring works by well-known local artist Fran Van Vegchel and some of the group’s new members.
Jumping Ant Arts will be running a drawing workshop at the nearby 1913 Council Chambers on February 20 for people who’d like to learn to how to draw or improve their existing skill levels, and they’re using the exhibition to promote it.
In Gallery 4, a display of community art created by an RADF-funded project last year is on show, while Gallery 2 features 10 paintings and sculptures by renowned Kingaroy artist, the late David Bryce.
These pieces have been drawn from the South Burnett Regional Council’s art collection. Roughly half of the works are early pieces while the rest are drawn from Bryce’s later period.
Gallery curator Fiona Kemp said the works had been selected to show the diversity of Bryce’s skill and to highlight the much darker themes that emerged during his later years.
Most of the works, she said, have not been seen often in recent years and some were “quite challenging”.
“Bits Of The Burnett” and the other three exhibitions will remain on show at the Kingaroy Art Gallery until the end of the month.
