Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council adopted its 2017-2018 Budget on Wednesday, July 20.
CEO Warren Collins said the $16 million budget is the biggest the community has seen in seven years, and the main focus of the coming year will be housing and infrastructure.
The increase in the budget is due to Working For Queensland grants from the Department of Local Government and Planning.
In addition, the Council has received extra capital funding of $1 million from the Department of State Development for its Material Recycling Facility, as well as $509,000 in extra funding for asset upgrades.
$6 million has been set aside to allow for the construction of 10 new houses in the community, and to upgrade and maintain existing houses.
During the past year the Council has purchased $500,000 of major plant, and increased its workforce by five new full time positions.
