A highlight of my week has been presenting the Australian Girls Scholarships at the Kingaroy Golf Club.

Thanks to support from Golf Australia, the club has been awarded a fantastic scholarship package, giving five young local golfers a chance to further develop their skills and confidence.

Ally, Hannah, Payton, Tayla and Abby – aged between 11 and 17 – were the proud recipients.

Each scholarship provides a shirt, cap, club, glove, balls and an incredible 24 hours of coaching, which is a wonderful boost for young players who are passionate about the game.

I was proud to present the awards, and even more delighted when the girls decided to give me a few putting tips afterwards.

Their enthusiasm was infectious, and it’s great to see young girls stepping forward and grabbing opportunities like this with both hands.

A big thank you to Jane and the Kingaroy Golf Club for the support they continue to show these young players.

Programs like this help build confidence, skills and a strong future for girls in sport – and it’s inspiring to see it happening right here in our community.

There’s something truly special about walking into a small school – the sense of community is immediate, and Kumbia State School captures that feeling perfectly.

I had the pleasure of recognising the 2026 student leaders as they received their badges, and it was a proud moment for everyone involved.

The enthusiasm and pride these students have in their school is infectious.

Spending time with them is always a reminder of why supporting our small schools matters so much.

Watching these young leaders step into their roles with confidence and excitement reassured me once again that our future is in very capable hands.

Catching up with the Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce and Industry is always time well spent.

The KCCI is a committed group that works hard to strengthen local business and create opportunities across our region.

We spoke about a number of local issues and the pressures facing small businesses right now, particularly rising costs and the added strain of the current national fuel crisis.

These challenges are being felt across many sectors.

Small businesses are the backbone of our community and working alongside a group so focused on helping them navigate these tough conditions is something I value.

Congratulations to local JP Annette Roderick on 25 years of service as a Justice of the Peace.

It was wonderful to recognise Annette for this milestone and personally present her with her long service certificate of service.

Receiving these certificates is a well‑deserved acknowledgement of the countless people JPs have supported over the years.

Their commitment to serving the community has been remarkable, and it was a privilege to celebrate such an important milestone with Annette.
