A small ceremony was held at Nanango last week to hand over three new trucks to local rural fire brigades, and recognise the service of a dozen local volunteers.

South Burnett Area Manager Inspector Bruce Thompson thanked the medal recipients and also their family members and the community who support them.

He said it was an important occasion to honour the people and resources that help to keep the community safe.

Rural Fire Service Acting Deputy Chief Officer Aaron Howard presented the medals (see below):

  • The Queensland Fire Medal recognises demonstrated commitment to ethical standards, personal integrity and diligent service over a prolonged period. It is not grant as a right linked to long service.
  • The Diligent and Ethical Service Clasp is granted to recipients who have already received the former Diligent and Ethical Service Medal after they have completed another 10 years of service and maintained diligent and ethical standards.

Acting Deputy Chief Officer Howard said he was proud of the service of the recipients, as well as those South Burnett volunteers who were deployed to Bundaberg after the recent floods.
