Police searching for two missing tourists in the Kilkivan area have located a vehicle believed to have been used by the couple.

The 26-year-old man and 23-year-old woman, who were Chinese tourists, were travelling in a silver Subaru Forester from Brisbane to the North Burnett when they failed to reach their destination.

A search began on Wednesday morning involving police, SES and helicopters in the Kilkivan to Mundubbera area.

A silver vehicle was located on Wednesday afternoon in floodwaters near Kilkivan-Tansey Road and McArthur Road.

This is west of Kilkivan, near the Wide Bay Creek bridge.

Photos taken from the 7News helicopter show the vehicle semi-submerged.

Police are at the scene and the search is continuing.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the two missing tourists have been urged to contact police.
