The South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group remained at “Stand Up” status on Tuesday afternoon despite the rain stopping.
However localised flooding was still occurring in parts of the region and significant road damage was becoming apparent.
The Burnett Highway has now reopened but access to Murgon remains closed at Krebs Bridge (on the Bunya Highway) and Angels Bridge (on Murgon-Barambah Road).
Krebs Bridge is expected to be closed until at least Tuesday afternoon.
The South Burnett Regional Council is working with the Department of Transport and Main Roads to reopen the Bunya Highway when it is safe to do so.
“We are working to identify priority repairs as the water recedes and I would like to thank our community for their patience at this time. I urge everyone to please report any road damage to Council on (07) 4189-9100,” Mayor Kathy Duff said.
“Council is receiving hundreds of reports of road damage and has begun inspecting and prioritising repairs. It will take days and possibly weeks to make some roads safe for travel.
“The community should monitor the Disaster Dashboard for updates on road conditions and observe road closure signage.
“Further updates on road conditions will be provided to keep the community informed.”
Footnote: The Bureau of Meteorology recorded rainfall of 396mm at Boondooma between 9:00am Saturday and 9:00am Tuesday.
